Technical knowledge for immunization coding

Making vaccine information easier to understand

IVC brings vaccine code-set authors and terminology experts together to share practical knowledge, examine difficult questions, and develop useful technical resources.

Why this work matters

Vocabulary is essential infrastructure

Vaccine vocabularies allow immunization systems to record which vaccines were given and preserve that meaning as records move between systems, organizations, and countries.

1

Understand the problem

Codes are created for different purposes and change over time, while vaccination histories must remain useful for a lifetime.

2

Share expert knowledge

IVC gives code-set authors and other specialists a practical place to compare experience and work through hard questions.

3

Build useful resources

NUVA, alignment work, articles, and meeting presentations turn discussion into knowledge that others can use.

A shared technical foundation

NUVA is at the center of IVC's technical work

NUVA—the Unified Nomenclature of Vaccines—is an open, shared ontology for representing administered vaccines and their valences consistently across existing vaccine code systems and over time.

It does not replace national, regulatory, product, billing, or clinical code systems. It provides a shared model that can help people interpret and relate them.

Bring your experience to an IVC meeting

Monthly peer meetings are the clearest way to learn what others are working on, bring a technical question, or share your own experience.
