Historical context: The collaboration was known as the International Vaccine Codes Initiative (IVCI) at the time. Presentations retain the terminology and project status current in May 2025.

Why Bordeaux mattered

The events brought together people working with vaccine vocabularies, terminology, immunization systems, standards, and implementation projects. The training introduced vaccine coding and NUVA. The summit examined the practical problem IVC was formed to address and brought together perspectives on NUVA, valences, alignments, standards, national experience, industry, and implementation.

The discussions helped clarify the need for sustained technical collaboration and shared knowledge. Participants explored IVC as a bridge among existing organizations and standards efforts—not as a replacement for them. Discussions about governance, funding, community support, and future work were exploratory and should not be read as formal commitments or consensus decisions.
