NUVA as a SNOMED-CT extension

The NUVA Extension to SNOMED CT is the product of a collaborative agreement between SYADEM and SNOMED International, the development organizations responsible for these health data standards.

This package has been constructed in compliance with the SNOMED CT RF2 format. The RF2 format specifies UTF-8 encoded tab-delimited flat files which can be imported into any database or other software application. SNOMED CT files are designed as relational tables with each line in the file representing a row in the table. The first row of each table contains column headings. All other rows contain data.

SNOMED CT is copyright International Health Terminology Standards Development Organisation 2002-2025. All rights reserved. “SNOMED” and “SNOMED CT” are registered trademarks of International Health Terminology Standards Development Organisation, trading as SNOMED International.

NUVA is provided by SYADEM, a French registered company, as a public resource under the Creative Commmons CC-BY-ND license (Attribution, No Derivatives).

It is designed as a portable, long term codification for recording administered vaccines, retaining their functional description in terms of valences.

The first release of the NUVA extension in May 2025 includes the NUVA core content, consisting of concepts for Vaccines and Valences. Future versions will be complemented with other resources already available from NUVA, such as:

  • Translations to other languages than English
  • Alignments with many other code systems for vaccines.
